The highest peaks of the Thuringian Forest – the Großer Beerberg (at 983 m Thuringia’s highest mountain), the Schneekopf at 978 m and the Großer Finsterberg at 944 m – are all within easy reach. The Rennsteig leads directly past the Grenzadler, right next to the DKB Ski ARENA Oberhof, where biathlon, cross-country and Nordic combined competitions are held. The ski jumps in the Kanzlersgrund, the DKB indoor ski hall and the luge and bobsleigh track are also close by.
